OVADYA: About Ovadya

Original, neo-psychedelic, world & jazz-influenced acoustic and rock: MidEast/Celtic/ modal textures.

----------

O•VAD•YA’s music has been on radio all over the US. Positive press has followed their music from New York to Cincinnati to Israeli publications— from Illinois Entertainer to Guitar World magazine. Their resoundingly original music has placed them before diverse audiences, from opening for Eric Burdon and the Animals all the way to performing for festivals and intimate coffee houses to traditional Jewish congregations. Original world-influenced neo-psychedelic acoustic and electric rock. “Ovadya hard to define, but easy to rock”—Suntimes/Pioneer Press  www.Ovadya.net

----------

OVADYA is an adventure in music. Linda Wolf and M Hurley have combined to fuse an utterly uncategorizable, addictve sound. The music of Ovadya has received affirmations such as label offers, positive reviews from Chicago Tribune, Illinois Entertainer, Guitar World, New York's CMU and charting in CMJ, etc., etc.

M Hurley's (Lead and R Guitars, vocals, +) playing, tunes and vocals have received notice and nods from the likes of Guitar World magazine, Chicago Tribune, radio, Illinois Entertainer and other press, and indie and major labels.

Linda Wolf (Sax, Violin, Bass, Percussion, Vocals) has jammed with Blues Queen Koko Taylor, played sax for major label artist and guitar legend Phil Keaggy's album, and has played out and all over for many years.

Diccon Lee (bass, guitars, percussion) adds a triple threat of guitars, original music/songs, vocals, bass and percussion. Oops. I guess that's more than three, huh? Diccon has an exquisite voice, ear, and sense of melody. He is also the member of the band Compass, and when the three of us met it was truly co-visionary.

Dan Lawitts, (drums and about 27 timpani) our amazing drummer has just moved back to New York, so stay tuned for the new addition!

We are excited about the unique, growing and expansive chemistry that is Ovadya.

Welcome to an extremely unusual aural journey...

Now, for those insisting on knowing "Influences," as if Hurley sat down at 11 and tried to play like Ravi Shankar (which she did, granted that her guitar was minus approximately 15 strings) or that Wolf tried to BE Earth Wind and Fire, all we can tell you is who some of the people we like are which have NO DIRECT BEARING on what you will hear, especially live--except on the other hand you may hear everything...

Ozric Tentacles, Shlomo Bar, Hassan Erraji, System of a Down, Kings X, anything with a major hardass groove, Earth Wind and Fire, Eminem, Lyrics Bourn, Hassan Hakmoun, Rachid Taha, Bustan Avraham, Alice in Chains, Adrian Legg, Michael Hedges, Phil Keaggy, Chronos Quartet, Klezmatics, Bela Fleck, Rapa Iti Tahitian Choir, Tuvan Throat Singing, Rabbinical School Dropouts...

There now. Does that help?

Didn't think so...

Check us live.
